Every Donation Makes a Difference
Every donation to the Freedmen’s Town Museums – Houston of the Rutherford BH Yates Museum, Inc. helps in preserving history and our mission of educating the public about historical contributions to the community. No matter how small, your donations fund our goal of sharing stories, knowledge, and achievements of historical figures and homes as we build pride and knowledge in our community.
Your Donation Can Fund:
- Unrestricted funds for preservation, operations, archaeology, student internships, brick streets, and youth education programs.
- Workman’s Cottage – Barber/Beauty Shop House Museum (1924) It needs $30,000 to complete brick pathways, historic gardens, and security lighting.
- Rutherford B. H. Yates, Sr. – Printers & Publishers Museum (1912) The home needs $90,000 toward its final restoration as the Yates Printers and Publishers Museum.
- Rev. Ned P. Pullum & Emma Eddy-Pullum – Health & Business House Museum (1898) It needs $650,000 to restore it as a Health & Business Museum.
- J. Vance Lewis & Pauline Gray-Lewis – Museum of Legal Professions & Educators (1907) The home needs $200,000 to complete the restoration as a Museum of Legal Professions and Educators.
- Isabelle Simms – Gift Shop/Gallery/Tour Office [1907] This home needs $250,000 more to complete its restoration as the Tour Office, Gallery, & Gift Shop.
- Jacob Nixon – Archaeology Field School Workshop/Gallery [1911) It needs $200,000 more to add the tour gathering and archaeology lab building and to complete restoration as the Archaeology Field School Workshop & Gallery.

Your donations toward the first $700,000 milestone will enable RBHYates Museum to receive, from Catherine & Scott Roberts, Ph.D., the donation of two additional Archaeology sites valued at $600,000.
